Pujara lauds Dravid:- India’s Test batsman Cheteshwar Pujara on Monday heaped praise on Rahul Dravid, saying the vast experience of the newly appointed head coach will certainly benefit the team.
India will look to avenge their loss in the final of the World Test Championship when they host New Zealand in the first Test in Kanpur on Thursday.
Recently, Dravid has also taken over the command of the Test team after India’s clean sweep over New Zealand in the three-match T20 series.
According to Pujara, the former Indian captain, who has played 164 Tests for India, will share a lot of guidance with the young players.
“It will help most of the players, especially the young players, who have worked with Rahul Bhai during his U-19 and India A days,” he said. Even experienced players like us have played with Rahul Bhai.
Pujara said in a virtual press conference before the team’s training session, I have worked with him during the A-series, so we are all looking forward to his guidance. The amount of experience he has as a player and coach of the team will help.
Pujara further revealed that young Shubman Gill will be a part of India’s playing XI for the first Test.
He said the right-handed batsman has been playing good cricket since making his debut and is looking forward to playing a talented player.
Can’t disclose it at this point in time, he said. But look, he is a talented player and definitely, he will be part of the team. So, someone like him, you know he doesn’t need to worry much and since he made his debut, he has been playing good cricket for a few years now.
“It was unfortunate that he missed out on England, but he is a talented player and I don’t think personally I need to tell him much,” Pujara said.
